Step 8. I work the heavy grinding damage with a nylon tool. Its not the best tool but it kind of smears the aluminum surface and evens out scratches some at least.:

Step 9. Ok, the pipe looks a little better but we need a more detaling where the drill cant reach:
Step 10. Now its time to work the aluminum surface by hand with wetsanding paper and cork. 180grain and then over to the finer 400grain, time to call your girlfriend and let her know you wont be home in time for supper:

Step 11. I fold the sandingpaper to gain controll and better remove pores were the drill does not reach that good:

Step 12. When all defects are removed its time to wetsand the whole piece with a finer grain. I went from 600, 900(?), 1200, 1500 up to 2000grain. I spend about 10 minuites per paper at this stage:

Step 13. With a block of cork i grind the flat surface with the 3000 numbers. Grinding can make edges too rounded and this makes it look better, in my opinion of course:

Step 14. We are getting somewhere! After i have used the 1500 and finally the 2000grain paper i degrease and wash the pipe properly.
